Did you know that December 6th is St. Nikolaus Day? While it's not widely celebrated in the United States (yet!), St. Nikolaus Day is a big event in much of Northern Europe. In Germany and quite a few other European countries, children will place a shoe or boot outside the door the night before, hoping to wake and find candy, coins or a small gift inside! In the Netherlands, children will leave their shoes by the fireplace or chimney. It's sort of like an early stocking, and it's such a fun way to kick of the excitement of Christmas and gift giving.
Do any of you have this sweet tradition or one like it? There is just something so cute about leaving tiny presents in your littles shoes. We love celebrating St. Nikolaus day!
