Yo! Yes? by Chris Raschka

Making friends can be difficult, but if you open yourself up to meeting new people from all walks of life, then it's one of the easiest (and most fulfilling) things in the world. Yo! Yes? by Chris Raschka portrays a similar message.

Two boys, (one African American and one white), meet and assess one and other. After a few simple words and emotive gestures brought to life by the illustrations, they become quick friends.

The playful balance between words (there are only 34 throughout the whole book!) and vibrant imagery, make this book a real winner. It also highlights the challenges and rewards of new friendships, and makes a very positive statement about racial diversity as well.
