Behind the scenes

Summerfield Waldorf Shoot

Located in the breathtakingly gorgeous Sonoma Country (a mere hour drive from San Francisco), our creative team descended upon the idyllic Summerfield School and Farm for our Fall '14 location shoot. Let's just say, we never wanted to leave. But when we did, we left with so much new-found inspiration and even more respect and love for all that is organic, natural, and farm-friendly.

The Summerfield school was founded by a group of parents in 1974 with only 11 students in the first class. By 1980 the school had purchased a horse farm, which they have since turned in to an incredible (not to mention gorgeous) working bio-dynamic farm that teaches the Summerfield students sustainable lifestyle skills.

The farm also has the added bonus of being the school's primary food source where the kids are responsible for planting, harvesting and cooking their own food. It's a true farm-to-cafeteria situation over there and it's absolutely amazing.

Although it rained off and on during our shoot, and our giant rented RV got so stuck in the mud that is required a total of 3 different tow trunks to unearth us, we couldn't have asked for a better, more magical place to spend the week shooting our Fall catalog. Our prop stylist was in heaven because everything there already looked so perfectly photo-worthy.

The kids had an absolute blast (let's just say it beats hanging out inside a studio all day!) and learned some important farmstead skills like feeding goats, chickens and cows (did you know that cows L-O-V-E sugar beets?). It was far and away our favorite shoot to date!

Here are a few of our favorite the behind-the-scenes moments below:

Huge thanks to the students and teachers (shoutout to Farmer Dana!) of Summerfield and to our entire crew for the amazing adventure. We <3 Summerfield!
